Return to Play - Update 3

1. Access to the pitch

We are still awaiting approval from Wiltshire Council for pitch access. Our best case now is to run stress tests of our Covid protocols with selected senior squads w/c 21st September and to run some ‘knockabout’ sessions for both senior sections on Saturday 26th September. You will be invited via ClubBuzz to these sessions as soon as we have confirmation from Springfield (see below for invitation process).

2. New training times

Covid 19 has meant we have had to change some of our training slots. Springfield is working to limited opening times with reduced staff which means bringing senior training forward to 19:00. This, in turn, impacts on the younger Junior training which has had to move to a Sunday morning. Please see the table below with details of all training times. Please note, due to Covid requirements one parent/carer will need to stay for the duration of the training session for the age groups: U8s, U10s and U12s ie the Sunday sessions. We will provide further detailed information about the new Junior set-up nearer the time.

3. Invitation to training sessions

Every participant must:

1) Sign up to the England Hockey Participation Agreement.

2) Re-register with ClubBuzz for 2020/21 season and ensure all contact details are accurate.

Only those members who have completed both of these will be invited to training sessions.

3) Read the Corsham HC Step 4 Return to Play Guidance in full.

Participants will be invited to training sessions via a ClubBuzz Match Selection email.

Participants must respond with either 'Accept' or 'Decline' at least 48 hours prior to the session taking place.

Only participants who have 'Accepted' 48 hours prior to the session will be able to attend a session.

By 'Accepting' selection you are confirming that you have read the Corsham HC Step 4 Return to Play Guidance.

The ClubBuzz selection will be used to compile Attendance Registers which are supplied to England Hockey for track & trace.

All information about Corsham HC Return to Play and England Hockey Guidance for can be found on our website and look out for emails.

Participation Agreement and Club Buzz registration

Corsham HC Return to Play – Update 2

Action required: England Hockey Participation Agreement & ClubBuzz Registration for 2020/21 Season

The first stage in the Corsham HC Covid 19 Return to Play (EH Step 4) plan is for all players, coaches, officials and volunteers (ie anyone who will be stepping onto the astroturf as part of Corsham HC) to sign up to the England Hockey Participation Agreement.

Please be aware it takes 24 hours for the system to link you to Corsham HC and for the Covid Officer (Sheila Stansfield) to be able to view that you are registered. Only those players who have signed the Participation Agreement are permitted by England Hockey to be invited to training sessions.

Please click on this link to sign up. The Participation Agreement clearly outlines the risks and requirements to support the Track and Trace system. The Participation Agreement also outlines the Code of Ethics and Behaviours expected in the sport and gives match officials the authority to ensure that measures are being adhered to.

Before signing the Participation Agreement members are advised to read the following England Hockey documents as relevant to their role:

Advice for Participants

Advice for Coaches

Advice for Umpires

Please ensure that the details you enter in the Participation Agreement, exactly match the details that are in your ClubBuzz profile for Corsham HC (ie name, DOB, email and mobile number). Corsham HC will only have access to your ClubBuzz contact details for Track & Trace purposes.

Only players who have a completed a Participation Agreement and have re-registered on their ClubBuzz account for the 2020/21 Season will be invited to training sessions. Any questions about registering with ClubBuzz please contact Tim Waldron at: membership.corshamhockey@gmail.com

Things to note:

I would advise starting by only selecting one organisation ie Corsham HC (you can complete a second registration for other organisations as required at a later date)

U18s – ideally the parent/guardian needs to consent on the form on behalf of the U18 player

You will receive a confirmation email with your details from EH. Please keep this email as back up proof that you have signed the Participation Agreement.

Your data will be held by EH for a whole season. Corsham HC will be able to view the list of members who have completed the Participation Agreement (names and DOB only).

If you make a mistake or have any questions about the form then you can contact:

clubs@englandhockey.co.uk

There is also a video to support completion of the form but I warn you, it’s 17 minutes long and is not for the faint hearted!

https://youtu.be/E0YZX5747q4

All information and full England Hockey Guidance on Returning to Play Step 4 can be found here: http://www.englandhockey.co.uk/covid19

Return to Play - Update 1

Dear Member, Parent, Carer, Supporter and Friend

Following the Club Update and the Call to Action Junior Update emails sent on 13th August we trust that this email will assist in both updating you on the status of Corsham HC’s Return to Play and help with diary planning over the next few weeks. This is, by necessity, a long email – please read all the way to the end!

Our Return to Play is reliant on two fundamental things:

1. Full Compliance with England Hockey’s “Hockey Deliverer Participation Agreement”

Put frankly, failure to comply with the above may result in Corsham HC being referred to EH for a Disrepute Complaint Offence! There are a number of measures which need to be in place for us to be fully Covid Compliant and the bottom line is: “each club or organisation must only return to sport when they are ready and have the appropriate measures in place to be compliant with both the guidance developed by England Hockey and the Government guidance.”

Listed below are some of the things we, as a Club, need to have in place to be compliant (this is not exhaustive):

Nominated club Covid Officer registered with England Hockey (Sheila Stansfield has been appointed)

All Club participants to sign a ‘Participation Agreement’ with England Hockey

Detailed Risk Assessments for Step 4 Return to Play completed and shared with Springfield

System in place to capture Attendance Information (for all training sessions & matches) and supply to EH within 24 hours of each session taking place (this is for Track and Trace)

Booking system to be used for training (via ClubBuzz)

Full communication to ensure all participants are fully aware of their personal responsibilities for reducing the risks of Covid and reporting procedures if they have symptoms

Our Step 4 Risk Assessment is nearly complete (thank you to Debbie Barefoot for the huge amount of work that has gone into this already). The RA has identified many things to ensure compliance including amongst others:

Safe and separate entry and exit points to the astroturf

One way system around the training area

Signage

Kit locations points (for individual / bubbles) – suitably distanced

Hand hygiene points

Guidelines regarding use and storage of shared Club kit eg face masks, balls, bibs, GK kit etc

The plan is to stress test all of our compliance measures with smaller groups initially (please see below for more details). This will ensure that we have robust processes in place, with member wellbeing and safety as our priority.

2. Springfield re-opening and pitch availability

We are in close contact with management at the Springfield Centre but the re-opening of the pitch remains out of our control and we do not yet have a confirmed date for re-opening (we are optimistic that it will be very soon). Currently, Springfield is open for reduced hours (closing at 8.00pm) and the centre is working with reduced staffing levels. As a result, we may have to be flexible about when training takes place over the coming weeks (see below).

Diary Dates for Returning to Play:

League matches

Senior league matches for both sections start on 24th October (subject to EH moving to Step 5 and local Covid conditions). If played in full, the season will run through to the end of April.

Senior Training

Assuming Springfield re-opens we are planning the following:

w/c 7th September: stress test training with small selected group of committee members, coaches and players

w/c 14th September: stress test to continue with expanded 1st team squad training (18 players per squad) for both Men and Ladies

w/c 21st September: as above

w/c 28th September: full training for all players

This plan will still give a full 4 weeks of training before the first league game for all players. We have prioritised the 1st teams as both teams have been promoted this season. By working with defined squads we can ensure that our compliance systems are fully stress tested before opening up to the whole senior section.

We cannot confirm actual training session times and days until we know more from Springfield. We have booked the pitch for the following times:

Tuesdays: 7.30pm onwards

Wednesdays: 6.00pm onwards

Thursdays: 6.00pm – 7.30pm

Saturdays/Sundays: all day

Potentially we will all need to be flexible on when training takes place for different sections/squads. We know this is not ideal for planning around other commitments at this stage but this is the new normal we have to work with for now.

Junior Training

The current plan is to resume Junior Training following the half term break at the end of October. This is fully dependant on a new Junior Chair being voted in at the AGM on 30th September and a Junior Committee being in place, including Coaches for each age group. As Sheila is working on the Covid Officer and Return to Play as a priority, we really need someone to take on the Junior Chair role asap as she cannot do both!

Club AGM

The Club AGM will be on Wednesday 30th September and there will be a full communication regarding this coming very soon. We have a number of positions that need to be filled in order for Corsham HC to continue to run as successfully as it has to date. The Club really needs new ideas and fresh energy so, if you have a few hours to spare please contact info.corshamhockey@gmail.com

And finally…

Thank you for reading this far! Please look out for further emails coming your way which will give you details of the things you will need you to do as a player going forward (eg EH Participation Registration, ClubBuzz registration, payment of Membership fees etc). We will continue to use the ClubBuzz email system for all our Return to Play communication as it ensures we reach all members and also gives us a paper trail. We will use WhatsApp to politely remind people to read the emails that have been sent out. Please ensure that ClubBuzz emails do not go into your spam. We will also start putting copies of emails on our website for reference.

Finally, we know some of you may be frustrated that you can’t just walk on the pitch and hit a hockey ball, especially as some other local Clubs are back already. But hopefully this email gives you more background understanding of the processes involved for Corsham HC and the considerable amount of work required to make our Return to Play safe and Covid compliant. We would ask you to be patient and please bear with us and we look forward to seeing you back on a pitch in a safe environment very soon.

Stay safe and best wishes

How are the hockey world keeping entertained during isolation?

In the following link, England Hockey has produced some good content on how the hockey world is keeping entertained during isolation.

Keeping entertained during isolation

If you take a look closely at one of the videos you might just see a familiar Corsham ladies player with their pup!

As always, stay safe and we will see you all very soon!

Corsham Men's 1st XI in the News!

Corsham men hockey club celebrated their probable promotion from the Verde Recreo League East Central Division One with a drink online

CORSHAM Hockey Club’s men got together for a virtual celebration to mark their probable promotion.

Having not dropped a point at their Springfield Leisure Centre home all season, they sat top of the Verde Recreo League East Central 1 when the season was closed one game early due to the coronavirus, holding an unassailable lead over their rivals.

Unable to celebrate their title win together, the team instead shared a drink online over Skype to mark the occasion.

Captain Matty Lewis said: “It’s been a hell of a season for the boys and with everything that is currently going on it would have been incredibly unjust to not celebrate somehow.

“Our big night out was unfortunately called off, for good reason of course, so this was the next best thing to do.

“They have worked incredibly hard and have gone from strength to strength.

“Only a few seasons ago we were struggling to field a whole side in the lowest tier of west country hockey, so to now be promoted into Central 2 is such a reflection of the hard work the boys put in each week.

“There is an element of looking out for each other during the current climate and keeping an eye on our mates.”

As the men head up another league for their second promotion in three years, they are always on the lookout for new players. For more information visit

Junior Christmas Fundraiser 7th December

Christmas Fundraiser - 7th December, 2.00pm to 4.00pm

Corsham HC Juniors are raising money to support the training of our Junior Coaches with a Christmas Fundraiser on 7th December which includes a sponsored fun run round the hockey pitch. If you would like to donate please follow this link:

https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/corshamhc-juniors

We have 7 regular coaches who are all volunteers and we are sending them on an England Hockey Introduction to Hockey Coaching Course in January (this costs £90 per coach). We would also like to fund one of our lead coaches to achieve the highest EH qualification - UKCC England Hockey Coach course (this costs an eye watering £460).

Any extra funds raised will go towards buying Junior kit including first aid kits and face masks for every squad.
